NATIONS CUP: Television details and revised fixtures

    Carling Nations Cup

    CARLING NATIONS CUP
The Football Association of Ireland has announced that it has secured a television deal with Sky Sports to show all six Carling Nations Cup matches in February and May 2011 in Ireland and the UK. All of the matches will be shown on Sky Sports in 3D, a first for three of the participating teams and the first time Sky Sports will cover a whole international tournament in 3D.

The agreement will also include simultaneous live broadcast of the Welsh matches in the Welsh language on S4C.

The opening matches of the Carling Nations Cup will take place in Aviva Stadium on February 8 (Republic of Ireland v Wales) and February 9 (Northern Ireland v Scotland). The final dates of the May matches of the Carling Nations Cup have also been revised under a new schedule agreed between the four competing Associations and the broadcast partners as follows:

Republic of Ireland v Northern Ireland Tue, May 24 2011 Aviva Stadium KO 7.45pm.

Scotland v Wales Wed, May 25 2011 Aviva Stadium KO 7.45pm.

Wales v Northern Ireland Fri, May 27 2011 Aviva Stadium KO 7.45pm.

Republic of Ireland v Scotland Sun, May 29 2011 Aviva Stadium KO 6.30pm.

Welcoming the announcement, Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports said:

“Live 3D coverage of the Carling Nations Cup further strengthens our portfolio of international football that already includes crucial Euro 2012 qualifiers for the home nations and the Republic of Ireland. We’re also delighted that the tournament provides us with another first; as we pioneer international football in 3D for both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The Aviva Stadium will provide the perfect backdrop for what should be some fantastic matches.”

NB: Alongside 3D coverage all conventional Sky Sports channels will also be showing the competition.
