Young Guns: Weekly update - Monday 14th January

Jonathan Bond (Watford - goalkeeper) Made his second start of the campaign at the glamorous surroundings of the Etihad Stadium last weekend.  City ran out 3-0 winners but the Wales youth international had thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
"It was a brilliant experience for me - obviously a strange one too, being a first competitive game for so long. Like the other lads, I saw it as a chance to test ourselves against the best." Jonthan Bond.

Wes Burns (Bristol City - midfielder) Was another to benefit from the FA Cup, making the match day squad and bench as City lost 2-0 at Ewood Park against Blackburn.  Although an unused sub, Burns will have enjoyed being around the first team on match day and will hope to get his chance before the season ends.  The young midfielder also picked up a goal as the development team beat Forest Green Rovers 4-1.

Wes made his professional debut versus Leicester on Saturday coming on at half time. Although it was a bad day for the manager and the team, 3-0 down at that time, Wes was highlighted by the manager along with other youngster Bobby Reid as the only bright spots in an otherwise poor day. I was at the game and thought he lit up the crowd with his pace and direct play. He Interviewed very well on radio Bristol and the clubs website.

Jake Cassidy (Wolves - striker) Returned to Wolves after his loan spell at Tranmere only to go straight into the match day squad to face Luton in The FA Cup.  The Wales U21 international made his debut off the bench after 68 minutes as his side crashed 1-0 at Kenilworth Road.  With a new manager due at Molineux, the youngster will hope to get a chance to impress the new manager.

Adam Henley (Blackburn - defender) Started once again started for Blackburn as they beat Bristol City in the FA Cup. Unfortunately injury hampered his game, he was withdrawn after 35 minutes with a possible hamstring injury.  He is likely to be out of action until February.

Elliott Hewitt (Ipswich - defender) Picked up his first start as Ipswich travelled to Aston Villa for the FA Cup final tie at Villa Park.  Hewitt played 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat.

Declan John (Cardiff city - midfielder) & Nat Jarvis (Cardiff City - striker) Benefitted from Malky Mackay's decision to field a youthful team in the FA Cup as both started against Macclesfield.  Jarvis was also on the score sheet as the Bluebirds crashed out 2-1.

Alex Lynch (Peterborough - goalkeeper) Kept a clean sheet as the U18's thrashed Aston Villa 4-0 to advance to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.  Lynch was joined in the starting line up by former Wales U16 training camp member Jack Hendry (Peterborough - defender) the ex Celtic youth team member who was the team skipper.

Richard Peniket (Fulham - striker) Scored as the U21's beat Crystal Palace this week.  Peniket scored his sides fifth in the 5-2 win.  He was joined in the squad by Josh Pritchard (Fulham - defender/midfielder) & Jordan Evans (Fulham - midfielder) who was a second half sub
