Midweek round up - Wednesday 22nd January 2014.

    Midweek Round up.
Midweek player round up from Sophie Beresford.

    FA Cup
Simon Church got Charlton Athletic's first two assists in their third round replay at Oxford United. Charlton's 3-0 victory took them through to a fourth-round tie at Huddersfield Town. After two postponements of the original tie, Charlton must have been glad to get through the replay at the first attempt, though perhaps Oxford wish they hadn't.

    League Cup
Jack Collison was an 89th-minute substitute for West Ham as they lost the second leg of their League Cup semi-final 3-0 at home to Manchester City. This gave Man City an aggregate win of 9-0. This will be Man City's first League Cup final in 38 years so the chances of Emyr Huws getting a run-out aren't just slim, they're Size 0.

On Wednesday, Ryan Giggs sat on the Old Trafford bench for the second leg of Manchester United's semi-final against Sunderland and therefore got an excellent view of a game he probably didn't enjoy nearly as much as I did. Sunderland thought they'd won it in the penultimate minute of extra time but Man Utd had other ideas and scored a goal of their own. The two teams then gave an entertaining masterclass in how not to score a penalty, with Sunderland emerging as 2-1 winners. Sunderland face Man City in the final. Well, if Wigan can do it...

    League One
George Ray was an unused substitute for Crewe in a 2-0 home victory over Milton Keynes Dons, who must really wish they'd managed to put that penalty in the back of the net when the score was still 1-0. But considering how bad the Premier League Champions are at penalties, who can blame a League One club for finding them tough?

Kieron Freeman set up Notts County's second goal after just seven minutes in their away match against Peterborough United, giving them a 2-0 league over the promotion-hopefuls. The next nine minutes went well for Notts, but then they had a player sent off and it all fell apart. Peterborough finished the match as 4-3 winners.
