Wales 3 Iceland 1

Wales 3 Iceland 1.
Wales got 2014 off to a winning start with a win against Iceland at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Goals from James Collins, Sam Vokes and Gareth Bale earned Chris Coleman's side a 3-1 victory.

A pretty even start saw the home side take the lead after 12 minutes, when centre half Collins glanced home a header from a Gareth Bale free kick.

The visitors grew into the game as the half wore on, and equalised after 26 minutes, when Ashley Williams deflected the ball into the net. This after the Wales defence had struggled to clear the danger.

Half Time: Wales 1 Iceland 1
Verdict: Lacklustre first half at times, with no tempo from the home side and no real pattern to play.

Wales started the second half well, and took the lead after 63 minutes when Vokes nodded home from close range after again good work from Bale from a Williams pass. On 70 minutes the home side extended their lead with a great run and finish from Bale

Full time: Wales 3 Iceland 1.
Verdict: Much better second half, with the home side closing down well. Better quality of possession, passing and movement.

Player verdict: Bale once again sometimes unplayable, Impressive debut from Huws in the holding role, strong and good passing. Allen grew as the game wore on, HRK strong as always.

Performance: Good start to 2014, second half much better, not because of the goals and the scoreline, but the higher tempo of play and better distribution of the ball from back. Can we take the second half performance, and do that for 90 minutes when it counts, let's wait and see.
