    FSF Cymru FAW meeting

    Wales fsns
    Latest FSF Cymru meeting

    Introduction

Paul Corkrey opened the meeting by explaining the eagerness of the FSF and FAW to spread these meetings to other areas to enable more fans the opportunity to express their views. Further meetings of this sort will be arranged in London and Mid Wales in the future and other areas in due course. There are usually four or five of these meetings each year.

    Minutes of last meeting

These were distributed to everyone and it was noted that all matters arising would be covered within the meeting.

    Israel

A lengthy discussion took place about this fixture and the FSF Cymru booklet will contain all the relevant information for the travelling fans, this is online and will be sent to all fans that have tickets for this game.
There are 900 tickets now sold and it looks likely that we will only have the upper of the lower section of the stand, the FAW are trying to secure the upper section and segregation inside the stadium is still being sorted. There will be a record of all tickets processed at the turnstiles to ensure that fans who bought tickets and did not travel will not gain advantage over other members.

There are 150 Welsh fans staying in Haifa whilst the rest are mainly based in Tel Aviv, transport has been arranged for almost 500 fans from Tel Aviv to Haifa on match day. These coaches will take fans to the port area and later that day directly to the game, details will be sent out to all fans who have booked. Fans will not be held behind at the final whistle and coaches will be outside the stadium for the return to Tel Aviv…there will also be local buses for those staying in Haifa.

Airport security is quite strict and fans are urged to be polite and honest to ensure they get through quickly. Political flags will not be allowed and they may only allow flags with fire certificate markings into stadium so be wary of that although we hope it should be fine to take flags.

    Tickets and Membership

We have now sold over 8,500 tournament tickets and over 8,600 memberships; there are 152 schools and clubs in the kickback scheme where they get a share of ticket sales monies. A question and answer discussion took place about the point system and how difficult it was to get to all games from North Wales. It was explained that some sort of system had to be put in place even though it’s been rarely used in the past. It’s based on continuous memberships, tournament tickets, home and away match attendance.

    Belgium home

The Belgium FA has quickly sold out their 2,200 away tickets and has requested more, but the FAW have refused stating that we expect a sell-out crowd. The capacity is set at just over 33,000 and tickets will be put on sale to members of the Wales Supporters Club in the next couple of weeks and then on general public sale towards the end of April.

    Bosnia Away

This game will be played in Zenica although no official confirmation has yet been received by the FAW. This will mean an allocation of less than 700 for the Welsh supporters. The FAW intend sending out emails and letters asking for fans to state their intention about getting tickets for this game, this will then enable the FAW to work out a criteria for selling tickets, it will be based on the membership, and loyalty scheme.
Belgium fans reported a very warm and friendly welcome on their trip out there and the FSF said that coaches would be available from Sarajevo for this game thanks to Leigh James. Neil Dymock will be going out there in the near future on a fact finding trip and the FAW and police will also do a reconnaissance trip with all information to be used in the FSF Cymru information booklet

    Cyprus

There is a possibility that the allocation of tickets for Welsh for this game will be increased, but it’s not confirmed yet. The FAW expect well over 2,000 Welsh fans to make this trip and will be meeting the Cyprus FA to ask for a bigger section of the stadium.
Welsh fans are expected to be spread out in various resorts for this trip but Leigh James has already started organising transport for match day from Ayia Napa, Pathos and Limassol to Nicosia and fans should contact him if they would like to travel on this transport. Chris Insole is running coaches from Pretorius.
Ex-pats getting tickets could be an issue especially if they put up England or Union Jack flags in the home end.

    Security at Wales’s games

Wayne Nash and Wayne Palmer both did a short talk about the role of Welsh stewards and police at Welsh away games. UEFA rules state that if you take more than 500 fans to an away game then you must supply stewards. They are there purely to assist supporters and have no power over the home stewards. It is a similar thing with the police, but the police have power to act if a person causes trouble abroad on their return to the UK. It was noted by the Wrexham fans that the stewards were very helpful to the disabled fans at the game in Amsterdam.

    FAW fan engagement

Ian Gwyn Hughes spoke about the visits Chris Coleman does to all parts of Wales to talk about football. The events are well attended and everyone enjoys them, it gives many fans the chance to put their views to the manager. More are planned throughout Wales.
These meetings are another way fans can get involved and there is also all the social media channels.

    Travel to home games

Travel to home games especially from North and Mid Wales on week nights is proving difficult. The FAW are aware of this and offered fans who run coaches the chance to contact the FAW with details, It is hoped that fans can be put in touch with each other to share the costs and to fill coaches. Fans are also asked to lobby their AM’s and Aviva about putting on trains back to Wrexham on nights after games,
Wayne Nash and the FAW both asked for better communication with regards to coaches so that they can be given priority after games to get them away from the stadium quicker.

    International football in North Wales

A discussion took place about the fact that first team matches had not been played at the Racecourse for seven years and there were fears that many of the younger fans are missing out on seeing the team play. The FAW do regular checks on the stadium and the playing surface is not up to standard at the moment and lots of work needs doing to it. There is also a problem with the facilities at the stadium not being up to UEFA standards, both Cardiff and Swansea had big upgrades due to playing in the Premier league and it cost nearly £3 million pounds. It could be possible for a first team friendly though once the pitch is re-laid and the under-21 team will also play a game in Bangor in the near future.

    Communication through Social network links.

Tickets are now mostly sold online and the FAW have a facebook and Twitter account. If any fans have any social network links that would help communication between Welsh fans and the FAW they can contact Ian Gwyn Hughes or Rob Dowling, they will help promote the links.

    FSF Cymru

The FSF have produced information booklets that will be distributed to all fans when they receive their match tickets, it is also available online. It is hoped funding can continue for the rest of the tournament and if so the FSF will continue its fan Embassy service at away games, either way they will continue to produce information booklets for every away game in the future.

    Gol

Gol will be raising money on the trip and will be visiting Shanti House in Tel Aviv, and the Desert Shanti Youth Village, which offer shelter and guidance to homeless young people. Shanti House was established more than 30 years ago and has helped 36,000 children with family and social problems.

    Any other business

Neil Dymock has organised a fans football match against Israeli fans on Friday March 27th in Tel Aviv, please contact him if you want to get involved,

Match programmes at away games was brought up and the FAW have requested that the Israeli FA produce them for this game, they have also contacted the Bosnian and Cyprus FA’S to do likewise

Upcoming games are the Under 21 v Bulgaria in Cardiff and the excellent Women’s team have two games at the Bangor city stadium in April.
