    FAW - LIDL

    FAW LIDL
    Lidl UK and The Football Association Wales (FAW) have today announced that the family supermarket will become a grassroots partner of The FAW until 2018.

    FAW press release.

    Lidl UK and The Football Association Wales (FAW) have today announced that the family supermarket will become a grassroots partner of The FAW until 2018.

    Lidl UK will be headline sponsors of the 'Lidl Play More Football' programme which creates a new and innovative approach to football participation that appeals to a wider audience than those that already enjoy playing football. As well as inspiring young people to play; it also develops the next generation of leaders, organisers and managers – creating football entrepreneurs who are tomorrow's leaders; who develop skills and experiences they can take forward into adult life. It will also become Official Supplier for The FAW on selected products.

    Ryan McDonnell, Lidl UK Purchasing Director said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Lidl and one that we are both excited and extremely proud to be a part of. We look forward to building successful partnerships with the English, Scottish & Welsh FA's in developing, the sport at both national and community levels."

    Jonathan Ford, CEO of The FAW said: "We are extremely excited to welcome a brand such as Lidl within our partner family. Lidl are committed to help develop the game on a local level - increasing participation of children and developing the next generation of young coaches and leaders. The Play More Football programme is the first of its kind in structure and will be a great platform for Lidl to engage with families."

    'Play More Football' Concept
    Programme aim –
    'Play More Football' is designed to maximise the appeal of the sport to young people who don't already play. It is about young people leading the game of football and developing their own approaches – creating new playing opportunities – based not on the past but on what they see as a better future.
    Programme outcome –
    We want the 'Play More Football' programme to make a significant contribution to achieving our strategic participation targets. In particular:
    •Â Â Â  50% of Young People playing football once a week – 200 000 children playing football by 2024.
    •Â Â Â  20 000 registered female players by 2024.

    Programme objectives –
    We want to achieve the following –
    •Â Â Â  Create regular opportunities to play football – designed, developed and delivered by young people for young people;
    •Â Â Â  create a programme concept that appeals and breaks down the barriers to participation for young people who DO NOT currently play the game;
    •Â Â Â  make a significant impact on the number of female's that play football regularly;
    •Â Â Â  market, promote and communicate in methods that appeal to young people;
    •Â Â Â  develop leadership skills and experience in young people that will help them in adult life;
    •Â Â Â  create enterprise opportunities for young people to organise activity for other people in the community (e.g. work place leagues, walking football).
