    Young Guns update

    Young Guns by John Jones.

Aron Davies and George Williams (Fulham)
With George now back at Fulham after the end of his loan spell during the first half of the season, he is involved playing regularly for the club's U-23 team with Aron as a team mate. Having had what can only be described as a disappointing time in his latest period at MK Dons he will surely be hoping the second half of this season will be better. The inopportune injury which came at a time when he was establishing himself in the Wales senior squad as well as being one that was anticipated to be an important player for the team going forward proved to be a setback that is taking quite some time to overcome. As has been the case for others it is one that can be negotiated successfully and hopefully George will eventually return to his marauding best. Although the transfer window has now closed, there will be a reopening of the loan system for a few weeks and it will be a decision for Fulham as to whether they prefer to monitor his progress at Craven Cottage or elsewhere should a request for his services be made. Aron as mentioned is also a member of the U-23 squad in what is his first season after leaving the youth team. The fact that he has been a regular in the central defensive role in the team is quite likely an indication that he has made the step up in competitive level with some ease and so it will now be a wait to see what new challenges the future brings for him.

    Declan John (Cardiff City)
Declan's return to be part of the Cardiff match-day squad has certainly been a sign that gives encouragement to followers of Welsh football. I must admit that I would not have been surprised to have seen him go out on a loan arrangement during the transfer window and though it is still something of a possibility to see that happen in the next few weeks, the likelihood does lessen now that he is part of the first team squad. I have written a fair amount in regard to Declan in the past so cannot add much to what has already been said other than it would be good to see him play as much first team football at as high a level as possible.

Tyler Roberts (West Bromwich Albion – on loan at Shrewsbury Town)
Some words of a congratulatory nature to acknowledge Tyler as he would seem to be quickly presenting himself as becoming a fan favourite at the New Meadow. In their latest match he produced a display which had them witnessing his considerable ball skills and along with pace and power that provided the team their first goal and then an assist in the second goal which was enough to ensure a winning performance. This shows that his ability is more than capable of success in League 1 football and he will surely be lacing his boots ready for higher levels in the coming seasons.

Liam Shepherd (Swansea City – on loan at Yeovil Town)
Liam is amassing a considerable number of first team appearances as he continues his loan at Yeovil. There can be little doubt that he has shown enough to be considered a very competent player in League 1 and 2 football and with his current contract at Swansea expiring at the end of this season comes a decision time for both club and player. He has been on the fringe of first team football with his parent club in the past but it may well be that both parties will be intent on instigating a parting of the ways in the summer. Liam will almost certainly have enjoyed the challenge of being involved in a similar environment to that he has tasted over the past 2 seasons and will likely want as much of an assurance as possible of continuing the experience. There certainly will be clubs with a good deal of interest in his availability, maybe even some in the Championship monitoring whether the acquisition of his services may be beneficial to their needs.

    Jordan Williams (Liverpool)
There was some amount of dialogue as the end of the transfer window approached that suggested that Jordan was likely to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis. Whether it was of a speculative nature or did indicate that something more tangible was discussed, I have not been able to determine. For the present, he is still involved with the U-23 team and something more definitive may be assessed as clubs explore the loan system to bolster their needs. Appearing on the bench for the FA Cup replay at Plymouth did seem to show that Jordan was rewarded for regaining form similar to what had given him his debut for the club a couple of seasons ago. It is another case of a dilemma for both club and player as a period of first team football is most likely what benefits Jordan at this time. Although a decision on any permanent deal will now come at the end of the season at the earliest, the next few weeks will be a time for assessment as to how to proceed later.

    Josh Yorwerth (Crawley Town)
Josh is once again a regular first team selection in the central defensive role for Crawley. He was similarly occupied in the early season and received some good reviews, particularly so when he played a couple of games in a midfield role. After this he was absent from the team and spent a month back in Wales when loaned to Merthyr Town. This was surprising, as in the past it was mentioned that some judged his credentials to be good enough for him to develop into a more than adequate player at Championship level. One assumes that he has regained his focus and is using his ability to be a valued member of the Checkatrade.com Stadium playing staff. A continuation in this manner and a work ethic to hone his game may yet see him return to play in more elite company at some point in the future.
