    YOUNG GUNS BLOG UPDATE

Young Guns Blog by John Jones.

Rollin Menayese (Bristol Rovers – on loan at Swindon Town)
The contract extension that Rollin recently signed at his parent club must indicate that they are pleased with his progress since singing for the club at the start of the season. Although most of his playing time has been with the development team, he has also been involved in some amount of first team play and made positive contributions. The management at the club must feel that he is ready to be involved in more first team football than may have developed if remaining with them and so have agreed the loan arrangement with Swindon. It is hopefully an agreement that will suit all parties, especially if Rollin gains experience from being regularly involved in first team football.

    Tyler Roberts (Leeds United)

The challenge of performing regularly in Championship football is now one that looms ahead for Tyler after his transfer from West Bromwich Albion to Leeds. It is one that many who have watched and commented on his play feel that he is very capable of accomplishing success at, some suggesting it will be another stepping stone to higher levels of football. Over the last couple of seasons Tyler has gained a good deal of experience of first team football and though it has been in League 1, will be a valuable resource for him as he adapts to trying to overcome new and likely tougher opponents. I am sure that it was not an easy decision for him to cut ties with the club that had guided     his career for a considerable number of years but the prospect of first team football there in the near term seemed unlikely, so a move on to enhance his career is for the best.

Joe Rodon (Swansea City – on loan at Cheltenham Town)
Joe will finally get the chance to experience the demands of first team football over the next few months as he is given the opportunity to help Cheltenham for the remainder of the season. Having gained admiration for his displays at U-21 level with Wales and at U-23 level at Swansea, it does make sense for this loan agreement to have been instigated in order for Joe to make more progress in his career. It is a situation that Joe will hopefully be able to take full advantage of and further impress his admirers that he can probably cope with the demands of even more challenging circumstances than what will confront him over the next few months. It has been somewhat unfortunate that Swansea are having a difficult season and as a result have not been able to consider there being an opportunity to give some of their young players such as Joe some taste of first team football at the club.

Harry Wilson (Liverpool – on loan at Hull City)
The pre-season injury was an unfortunate incident for Harry, causing him to have to take a back seat as his team mates prepared for the start of the campaign. Once he regained his fitness, the only avenue was to get match time at U-23 level when his delayed start to the season finally came to an end. Much to his credit, he quickly established the similar form that had impressed many at that level the previous season. Having basically ticked all the boxes, any continuation playing U-23 football was not an enhancement for his career. The move on loan to Hull however presents a perfect opportunity for him. He will now be in a position to be involved in first team football and gain experience of the demands it brings. His direct play and skills are an asset that causes problems for opposing defenders and though it is a big step up to be faced with Championship level players, if he can replicate those feats against them, a successful time at Hull can be anticipated. His other forte is a goal scoring ability, should he be able to continue this with any sort of regularity, not only will he quickly become a fan favourite but also gain the confidence of management and team mates that he is a valuable addition to their squad.
It will be interesting to see how the remainder of the season develops for these 4 young guns. Each has been given a chance to test themselves with the opportunity of more time playing first team football than would have been possible prior to the moves. It would seem to be the next logical steps for them to take but it will be far from easy as they adapt to new surroundings and circumstances. Dedication and determination along with their talent has been a requisite of what has brought them to this point, a continuation with possibly even more resolve than already exhibited will likely be necessary for the outcome to be a success. I am hoping that as the weeks move on there will be more positive news for me to comment on.
