  • Jack Masrani Defender, born 2002, Ethan Vaughan Defender born 2003 (Cardiff City)
Both Jack and Ethan were associated with the Cardiff academy from a very young age and this season are first year scholars with the club. Jack's birth year is a guess on my part as I could not find it published anywhere. I am sorry if my assumption is incorrect. He did make a couple substitute appearances for the U-18 team last season but has not appeared in any matchday squad for the team this season. Ethan was a member of the Wales schoolboy squad last season and played in the Victory Shield games for the team. He has not made any appearances for the U-18 team this season.

Josh Farrell (Granada CF) Forward, born 2003
A very recent addition to the Wales U-17 squad as he first attended a training camp a few months ago and would then have apparently been a member of the squad competing in the matches scheduled for late March. The cancellation denied him the chance, but it seems he is a good candidate for further recognition.

Josh Francombe (Atlanta United) Defender, born 2002

Josh was a member of the Wales schoolboy squad that competed in the 2017/18 season Victory Shield matches. He travelled from the United States to do so and is affiliated with MLS club Atlanta where he has been progressing well in their youth system. It was announced in the last few days that Josh has enrolled to play at Elon University to continue his football career. This is what most young players in the US do.

Gavin Gall (FC Dallas) Forward, born 2003

Gavin is another player based in America and is with MLS club Dallas. I believe I am correct in saying that he also attended the recent Wales U-17 training camp after having been previously involved in Cymru Cup matches in the summer of 2017.

Ryan Leak (Burgos CF) Defender, born 1998
Ryan spent many years with Wolves, progressing through their academy and then as a scholar prior to being signed as a fulltime professional in the summer of 2016. He was a member of the Wolves U-23 squad spending the first half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Welsh Premier League club TNS, playing in most of their games during that time. Last season, along with a number of other young Wolves players, he was loaned out for the season to Spanish club FC Jumilla. He joined Burgos on a permanent basis prior to the start of this season and after spending the first few games on the bench, has since played regularly for the team.

Ivan Watkins (Dukla Prague) Forward, born 2001
The addition of Ivan's name on the list Neil provides for the young guns in action was my first awareness of him. The only other information I can add about him is that he is a member of the U-19 squad at the club.

    Cole Dasilva Defender, (1999)

Has been a member of the Brentford B team squad for the last two seasons. He was a participant in the pre-season training camp conducted by Vancouver Whitecaps in February of this year but did not remain with the MLS club after that time. I do not know whether he returned to Brentford or not.

    Daniel Mooney (Altrincham) Forward, (1999)
Was with Fleetwood for the first half of the season and featured for the first team a few times. He was also a member of the Wales U-21 squad during that time. In January, Altrincham negotiated a transfer to sign him and so he joined them as they hoped to improve their promotion chances.

    Lewis Reed (Ipswich), Forward, (2001)
Has been a second year scholar with Ipswich this season, playing in some games for the U-18 team. In early January, his name appeared in the lineup for the Colchester U-18 team in a game in which he scored. It does seem that he played in some other games for the team as he is credited with having scored five goals for them. I do not know if he was with them as a triallist or whether he joined them for the remainder of his scholar tenure.

Callum Brain (2003) Goalkeeper, Luis Bates (2002) Ryan George (2001) Connor Graham (2003) Thomas Wright (2002) all Defenders, Ruben Fahiya (2002) Anuerin Livermore (2003) Zach Maher (2003) all Midfielders, Sioni Benham (2002) Ryan Hillier (2003) Lewys Twamley (2003) all Forwards, (Newport County)
These are the members of the club's U-18 squad who were of eligible age to be scholars this season and am assuming they were. To the best of my knowledge they are all eligible to represent Wales. Unfortunately, there is not a great deal I can add other than they were all in the squad for the FA Youth Cup third round game against Blackburn Rovers.

A lot of players mentioned this week but lacking in informative content. It completes the list of those I try to acknowledge as young guns. There may well be others but unfortunately, I am not aware of them.
