Azerbaijan Ban?
The Euro 2004 qualifying campaign has been thrown into turmoil after FIFA banned Azerbaijan representative teams playing international matches.

UEFA, though, has said it is too early to decide what impact FIFA's ban will have on the Group Nine results. "We will confirm that UEFA will adhere to FIFA's decision," said a UEFA spokesperson. But we'll have to take a closer look at what it means for the group, for the matches ahead, and those already played involving Azerbaijan."

The FAW will give their reaction tomorrow. Azerbaijan's next scheduled match is against Serbia & Montenegro on 11 June.

Defence the key.
Mark Hughes has stressed that despite the talk of their forward talent, the success over the past eighteen months has also been based around their defensive record.

"For three years we have put in hard work to defend as a team, to take up certain positions when the opposition have the ball in different areas of the field," said Hughes.

“The fruits of that hard work are being brought home in this campaign and everyone thinks it has just happened overnight. But I can assure you it hasn't. It is down to the discipline and hard work, sometimes tedious work, we have put into training since I took over as manager.”
