Hughes defence
Manager Mark Hughes has backed the Welsh defence – the supposed weakest link in the national side.

In the last seven internationals Wales have conceded only two goals and are currently on a five-match unbeaten run.

Hughes named a 27-man squad on Thursday (19.08.2004) for the opening two World Cup games away to Azerbaijan and home to Northern Ireland on September 4th and 8th.

"People would think that we are going to be vulnerable in defence. But our recent record shows we have conceded just two in seven games against top opposition.” said Hughes.
