    RUBIN COLWILL RISE

The rise and rise of Rubin Colwill

Wales Euro 2020 squad came with a bit of a surprise. Robert Page’s inclusion of Cardiff City teenager Rubin Colwill got tongues wagging. But the manager knew what he saw.

As at then, Colwill had played just 191 minutes of senior football since making his Bluebirds debut in February, with users of best usa casinos online watching closely. Yet Page said the 19-year-old “blew us all away” in training. He added, “He's been a breath of fresh air since he's come in”.

“He just blew us all away with how he was and how he conducted himself. He's a top professional already and a great lad to have around the place.”
Page went on, “He's really impressed me, he's got a presence and maybe something we've not got in the middle of the park. He can play off the right, he can play as a 10, he can play in midfield - and that's a bonus as well when you're looking to pick a squad”.

Although, the midfielder didn’t have any significant impact at the tournament, his selection already made him something of a national treasury. Collwel’s Wales bow came against France in June, before a second substitute appearance in a friendly in Finland earlier this month. Colwill's first Wales start - and competitive appearance - followed against Belarus four days later.

He said the dreams he had as a kid are "all coming true". One year later, Colwill’s stock has continued to soar.

Born in Neath, Colwill joined Cardiff's academy when aged eight. His talent has been apparent all along, though his progression in recent years has been thanks in part to a growth spurt which saw go from one of the smaller players in his age group to a 6ft 1 in presence in the senior dressing room.

Colwill has often times been dropped by Steve Morrison. The teenager has made 25 appearances in the Championship but started just a dozen of the games. He neither started in the Carabao Cup games or the FA Cup.

However, each time he has been called upon, Colwill has displayed class. He has found the net five times in the League and once in the FA Cup. He also has an assist to his name, which was backed by best sports betting Australia.

Colwill’s recent start against Queens Park Rangers yielded a goal. City fell behind in the first half after some sloppy defending afforded Andre Gray a simple chance in the middle of the area.

But Cardiff showed fantastic resolve to turn the game on its head in the space of five second-half minutes. The first came through Isaak Davies, who scored a sublime goal thanks to a fine solo effort, before Colwill smashed home a free-kick in front of the travelling supporters to claim all three points.

And icon Joe Ledley wants to see Colwill and Davies in the first team. "I think they've done enough," said Ledley. "It's important for them now to be playing week in, week out and showing the world what they can do."
