    FAW statement

    Ashley Williams
The FAW is both surprised and disappointed with an article that has been published on Wales Online reporting about the alleged treatment of Ashley Williams, the Wales and Swansea City captain.

The Together Stronger campaign surrounding our International teams has brought players, management, loyal supporters and the FAW closer together.

The support for the Wales National Team has been fantastic and genuine, both at home and abroad.

This support has been recognised by Ashley Williams, who said:

"The negative tone of the article was disappointing. It's been well documented that there was a bit of booing at the start of my captaincy, but that was a very long time ago, which my club manager was keen to point out during a recent press conference.

"Ever since then I have received fantastic support from all the Welsh fans at our fixtures, no matter which club they may also support. It is something I am extremely grateful for and means a lot to me. All the supporters are fully behind the Welsh team at this exciting time – and long may it continue.''

The FAW also recognises the fantastic support of the fans, who will continue to get behind Ashley and his teammates throughout the remaining European Qualifying matches and beyond.
