Ryan Broom (Cheltenham Town) Having progressed through the youth system and then made quite a few first team appearances in his two seasons as a full time professional with Bristol Rovers, Ryan found himself regarded as surplus to requirements by the club at the end of last season. Whatever concerns he may have had to receive such news were quickly abated, as Cheltenham soon offered him the chance to continue his career in the Football League. It is believed that both parties will have been pleased with the arrangement, Ryan has been a regular member of the League 2 team as all at Cheltenham strive to preserve their present status at season’s end. A career in professional football is so often a precarious one, there are many who would wish to succeed in this fashion, but only a limited number of opportunities are available to do so. An ability to perform at the level demanded is a must. It is often not only having the skills to do so, but also a determination to overcome the challenges presented along the way to achieving the goal that is a key factor in securing a positive outcome. Ryan will obviously be thrilled to continue with his ambition and be anxious to use every means available to him to gain further success. We wish him well.
Aron Davies (Fulham) As captain of the Fulham U-23 team, it must be assumed that Aron is valued by the coaching staff at the club. He has been a very regular member of the club’s teams since his move to the London club from Bristol City some 5 seasons ago. This is a sign that there is a satisfactorily opinion of the progress he has been making over that time. Undoubtedly, although still relatively young, Aron will be anxious to have the opportunity to play first team football as soon as possible. The club retains players in its development system with the intent of having them eventually elevated into the first team squad and obviously, this is the path forward that they envision for Aron. As is common for the vast majority of young players at clubs with Premier League status, it makes the task an extremely difficult one. Fulham’s return into this environment has added this extra obstacle in Aron’s progression. Participation by the club in the Checkatrade Trophy has given Aron some exposure to competing against first team players from League 1 and League 2, but again as is the trend, a loan period where first team football experience is gained, may be the step needed before senior team involvement at Craven Cottage is considered.
Jordan Davies (Brighton and Hove Albion) It is now approaching 2 years since the Seagulls secured the transfer of Jordan to their club from Wrexham. During that time, he has been a member of the U-23 development squad with them and has made numerous appearances for the team. Though there was a great deal of praise regarding Jordan’s ability, it was quite a big step for him even though he had shone brightly during his time loaned out in the WPL. It seems to have taken some time for him to get acclimatized to these new surroundings, but of late, his regular selection for the U-23 team seems to indicate that it is going well. With Brighton having gained promotion into the Premier League a few months after Jordan joined them, it can be regarded as a benefit as well as an extra challenge for him. It is an advantage to be in an environment that includes top class players and provides the opportunity to witness their application in training situations. The club is now in its second season in the top league and have used the financial resources it provides to continually upgrade their squad strength. This has made it tougher competition for Jordan, even for playing time at U-23 level, but if he can thrive in such circumstances then he will have the possibility of taking the field at the highest level which I am sure is his goal.
Cameron Evans and Daniel Williams (Swansea City) Two second year scholars at the Liberty Stadium, Cameron and Daniel have been regular members of the club’s U-18 team this season. This is not their only contribution to Swansea teams, as they have also featured in the Checkatrade Trophy matches that the club has been involved in. Daniel has also played in a recent Premier League Cup match which comes under the umbrella of the U-23 team. According to greatly appreciated sources, both are producing good displays and their performances have been very impressive at times. This will no doubt please management at the club as their focus these days has been the integration of young players into the first team and so there will be much delight if they can eventually develop to follow in those footsteps. Cameron has international experience as a schoolboy and at U-17 and was called up as a replacement player for the U-19 side that played a couple of friendlies in Ireland recently, although it is expected that next season will be the time he is most important at that level of competition. Daniel has, as yet, not been involved with any of the international teams, but a continuation of his level of performance that will see him move on to a full time contract at the club is quite likely to make such a comment an invalid one in the future.
