Bobby Beaumont (Sunderland) born 2002, Defender.

After many years of association with Wrexham, Bobby joined Sunderland this season to become a member of their U-23 squad. When he was at Wrexham, he played predominantly for the U-18 team along with some appearances for their reserve side. He did however make three first team appearances when selected for the Scottish Challenge Cup games as Wrexham were participants in the tournament last season. Now he will want to establish himself as a regular starter in the Sunderland U-23 team and try and progress from that point. In his time with the club so far, he has had some starting assignments and many appearances on the bench as well. In his schoolboy days, he played for the Wales team at U-15 level.

Kwaku Frimpong (AFC Wimbledon) born 2002, Midfielder.
I must admit that it was only through seeing Kwaku’s name on Neil’s list of young players in action that I became aware of him. From the best that I can tell, he has been playing regularly for Wimbledon’s U-18 team over the last two seasons, this season being his second as a scholar with the club. Kwaku qualifies as being eligible to represent Wales as Cardiff is noted as his birthplace on the Wimbledon website.

Corey Glaves (Sheffield Wednesday) born 2002, Midfielder.
Last season, his first as a scholar with the Owls, Corey only made a couple of appearances for their U-18 team along with some other occasions when he was on the bench. This season, as he has moved on to his second year, he has played in almost all of their games and so it looks as though he has consolidated a place as an important member of the squad. He has also made an appearance for the U-23 team and will be hoping that he is impressing the coaching staff enough for him to become a member of that squad next season. In the 2016/17 season, Corey represented Wales at U-15 level.

James Holmes (MK Dons) born 2002, Forward.
In his second season as a scholar with the Dons, James has been playing for their U-18 team as well as in some games for their older development team. Earlier in the season he spent some time on a work experience loan assignment at Bigglewade FC getting exposure to the demands of first team football competition at the local non-league club. With football at that level disrupted by the effects of the pandemic, it may not have been as beneficial as it might have been in better circumstances, but hopefully it has provided a means of moving his career forward. James became involved with Wales teams when selected for a squad that competed at U-16 level.

Ryan Kavanagh (Cardiff City) born 2002, Midfielder.
It was not surprising that Ryan became a scholar at Cardiff last season as in the previous one, when still in a schoolboy status at the club, he made well into a double digit amount of appearances for their U-18 team. He continued appearing regularly for the team last season but did not do so for the first part of this season. He has been back playing regularly lately and so I am guessing that some injury issue must have restricted his availability. Hopefully, he can continue to be involved for the remainder of the season and also add to some amount of involvement he has had with the U-23 team, as he will be trying to convince the coaching staff that he is worthy of continuing his association with Cardiff beyond the end of the season.

Dylan Morgan (Forest Green Rovers) born 2002, Midfielder.

As a schoolboy, Dylan was a member of the Southampton academy programme and at that time played for Wales at U-15 level. He then moved to his present club and is now in his second season as a scholar with them. Unfortunately, I am not able to find access to much news about the Forest Green development teams but as best as I can tell, Dylan has been playing regularly for the U-18 team over the past two seasons and may also be playing for their older development team in some games.

Michael Murphy (Swansea City) born 2002, Forward.
Michael is in his second year as a scholar with Swansea and played a few times for the U-18 team last season. I have only been able to find details for a few of the Swansea U-18 games this season but according to the club website Michael has been playing regularly for the U-18’s this season and has also been playing in some games for the U-23 team as well. He is amongst quite a large group of second year scholars about whom the Swansea management team will making decisions about their futures over the coming weeks.

Luke Rees (Hull City) born 2002, Forward.
Affiliated with Hull during his days as a schoolboy player, Luke is yet another from this week’s group who played international football Wales as an U-15 representative. He did well enough in the club academy programme to gain a scholar status and this season is his second in that capacity. Last season he played in half of the games played by the U-18 team and this season has appeared with a bit more frequency, a number of those appearances coming off the bench. He has also had a number of bench appearances for the U-23 team and last season was introduced as a substitute a couple of times.

++ to be confirmed if eligible for Wales
