Gary Speed will hold talks with the FAW within the next 24 hours.

The FAW are set to appoint a new manager by mid-December. A committee, chaired by president Phil Pritchard, will begin interviewing with the aim of appointing a successor next month. According to reports the FAW have drawn up a shortlist.

Interviews for the job are set to take place over a two-day period over the next couple of weeks. The list includes four Welshmen in Brian Flynn, John Hartson, Dean Saunders and Chris Coleman, as well as Lars Lagerback, who has managed Sweden and Nigeria at international level, and Lawrie Sanchez, who impressed while in charge of Northern Ireland. It has been important to keep the process tight, but we want the best possible person. We’re looking to schedule the next stage which will be a presentation interview and then make the decision. After that, hopefully we have a short negotiation stage as we want to appoint someone by mid-December.” - FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford.

Over the next few weeks the Football Association of Wales will be looking to appoint a National Team manager. The process of looking for a manager will begin immediately and applications from Pro-Licence coaches are invited between now and the end f the first week of November.

This will be an ongoing process but the FAW would hope to have a new National Team manager in place by December 2010.

The priority obviously is to qualify for the major finals but the manager will be expected to play a significant role in the overall development of Welsh football.

The Football Association of Wales will hold a press conference on Friday, October 15th to answer media questions regarding the process.

Manager Brian Flynn: "We played Austria in Parndorf at the end of last season in a friendly and had a very good work-out. We lost the game by a single goal, but it gave me the chance to start looking at potential new players for the future. This continues now with the return friendly. I need to replace the likes of Shaun MacDonald, Mark Bradley, Hal Robson-Kanu etc who are now too old for the squad, but I am happy that we have some good youngsters ready to step-up. Some were with me last week in our Under 19 mini-tournament qualifiers in South Wales, so I know plenty about them. I hope that the Newport fans will turn-out in strength to support the match at their local club, as well as other from across South Wales and the rest of the country too. These lads are the future and deserve our support".
