Will Andiyapan (Tottenham Hotspurs) born 2005, Defender.
After previously being associated with Arsenal, Will joined the Tottenham academy system when he was fourteen, doing well enough in his time with them to have been signed as one of their new scholars this season. His first exposure to the challenges of U-18 football has proven successful, as he has started more than half their games as well as having some bench assignments. He will now want to continue improving his abilities and establish himself in youth football with the intent of demonstrating the capability of moving on to the next step of development at the club. Will first played for Wales at U-15 level, played for the U-16 team last season and then did so for the U-17’s this season as they successfully qualified for the elite round of the European Championships. He will certainly be hoping to be part of the squad selected to contest that stage of the tournament when it takes place next month.

Oliver Camis (AFC Bournemouth) born 2005, Goalkeeper.

Joining the Chelsea academy as an eight year old, Oliver honed his skills for around seven years in their system before briefly being without a club attachment. He then joined Bournemouth for the latter part of his time as a schoolboy and is now a first year scholar at the club. He has been playing regularly for their U-19 team and has impressed enough to be given his debut with the older development squad team last month. He will have enjoyed being challenged to perform at that higher level of development football and will be aiming to enhance his career by performing well enough to get frequent opportunities in the future. Oliver has been involved with Wales from the earliest of times of national training camps and attended the Cymru Cup matches in 2019. He has played for the national teams at U-15, U-16 and U-17 levels and is another who will be keen to represent the nation again when the elite round match competition occurs.

Sonny Lewis (Newport County) born 2005, Midfielder.

Making his first team debut when coming off the bench in a Papa John’s Trophy match last season, Sonny was at that time a schoolboy associate and still a member of Newport’s academy. He was given a starting assignment in the same competition a few weeks later which indicated the high regard held at the club about his quality. He is now a first year scholar and has been playing regularly for their development teams. No further appearances have taken place, but he was on the bench for a league match a few weeks ago. If Sonny can maintain the progress he has exhibited so far in his young career, he will likely become an important player for both club and country. He of course came to the notice of the Wales coaches as a young schoolboy and has been involved with the national set up since that time. He played in the 2019 Cymru Cup games and then been selected at U-15, U-16 and U-17 levels. His name is expected to be amongst those who will be chosen to participate in the U-17 elite round matches soon to be played.

Ashley Phillips (Blackburn Rovers) born 2005, Defender.

A player that is certainly catching the eye of many scouts around the country, including those whose remit is assessments for the highest profile clubs. Ashley is a first year scholar at Rovers and the opinion at his club about the quality he possesses is very positive. He played ten times for their U-18 team last season but in this one, has only featured in two league games and FA Youth Cup matches. He has been tested by playing mostly in U-23 level games and has performed well enough for management to be considering him as a candidate for first team involvement. With the team amongst the leading contenders for promotion from the Championship, it is certainly an interesting situation to see if it occurs this season. Ashley played for the Wales U-16 team last season but has since been recruited by England and is a member of their U-17 squad. It does seem that he will continue representing England at present and we will have to wait and see what the future brings.

James Pradic (Preston North End) born 2005, Goalkeeper.

An association with Charlton Athletic culminated part way through last season. James had been playing for their academy teams as a schoolboy, but a decision was made that he wouldn’t be offered a scholar contract. Preston are the beneficiaries of the decision as, after a very brief affiliation with Gillingham, they invited James to trial at the Lancashire club. He quickly impressed their coaching staff and they promptly signed him to become a scholar with them this season. He has been doing well at his new club and has been regularly playing for their U-19 team. His aim now will be to convince the coaches that he is capable of playing well in the older development team. James first played for Wales as an U-15 and then played for the U-16’s last season. He is another who has been on U-17 duty this season and will likely continue to do so next month.

Alex Williams (West Bromwich Albion) born 2005, Defender.
Playing eight times for West Brom’s U-18 team last season gave an indication of the coaching staff’s opinion of Alex’s abilities. He was at that time still a schoolboy associate of their academy and this season he is in the first year of his time as a scholar with the club. He has continued to impress, as he has not only played in most of the U-18 games but also had a half dozen starting assignments for the U-23 team as well as another occasion when he was introduced off the bench. Alex is undoubtedly progressing at a rate that is above average expectations and will want to try and develop as quickly as possible toward first team consideration. Alex began playing for Wales at U-15 level and has been continually selected since that time. Last season it was with the U-16’s and this season he has stepped up to be a member of the U-17 squad. As Neil has noted, next week’s training camp is preparation for the elite round matches and Alex will surely be amongst those gathered to participate.
