    WALES IN EURO 2020

After the friendly defeat in Albania in November 2018, the jury was still out with many supporters regarding Ryan Giggs.

    Campaign start

The Euro 2020 campaign started on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Cardiff with a 1-0 win against Slovakia. The sunshine followed Wales to Croatia in June, but a 2-1 loss put Wales in "catch-up" mode with regards to the group. Days later a defeat in Budapest against Hungary, had already left Wales with a mountain to climb to qualify for the Euro 2020.

    The Moore effect

Kieffer Moore missed the June qualifiers due to last minute training injury, but what an effect the striker would have had in the autumn of 2019. Wales a long ball team, don't think so, the right long ball at the right time.

In September the group matches continued with a lacklustre performance against Azerbaijan in Cardiff, but a 2-1 victory is a win.

Halfway through the group, 4 matches gone, 2 wins 2 defeats, still in the group.

A double header in October started with a 1-1 draw in Trnava, it was vital in terms of having a better head to head record than Slovakia. Croatia followed at home in Cardiff another point in the group, leaving Wales on eight pts after six games. Still in the hunt going into November 2019.

Azerbaijan in Baku was a must not lose, and we didn't a comfortable 2-0 win.

Hungary at home to come, only a win and three points would do

Aaron Ramsey started a game in the group for the first time, and what a difference he made, 2 goals a Ramsey class performance

Wales had qualified for Euro 2020, the mountain has been climbed, and according to the Euro 2020 betting odds, they still hold a standing chance along the road.

    Euro 2020 Group A

So what does the summer of 2020 hold for Cymru?

Friendly matches beforehand, but would not read too much into them regarding the performance of the side.

Hopefully there will be no fitness issues, and what a tough 23 player selection Ryan Giggs will have come up with next June.
