Chem Campbell (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Chem is certainly a player who seems to be making a very good impression on the coaching staff at the Molineux club. Last season, although still on associated schoolboy terms at the club, he made starting appearances in almost half of the matches played by U-18 team. In the summer, he participated in the first team training sessions during the early part of the pre-season preparations. Now as a first year scholar, he is very much a regular starter in the U-18 team and as the season progresses, he may do well enough for consideration to be given to include him in the U-23 matches as a means of challenging him further.
Liam Higgins (Everton)
Liam, having reached his 16th birthday in the early part of this year, was able to sign on as a scholar at Everton in the summer. He is already making enough of an impression to have warranted inclusion in the matchday squads for the U-18 team. He was given a starting assignment for a recent game after gaining valuable experience when introduced as a substitute in some previous games. During the upcoming international break, Liam will be representing Wales as part of the U-17 team that will be competing in the group stage of the UEFA tournament. The squad is largely made up of those like himself, who were members of last seasonís Wales schoolboy representatives.
Taylor Jones (Cardiff City)
Taylor is another player who is now included in the Wales U-17 squad and was a team-mate of Liam during last seasonís Wales schoolboy international matches. He has also started his tenure as a scholar at Cardiff and is a member of their U-18 team. The competition faced in this seasonís U-18 games will not be a new experience for Taylor as he was introduced into the team during the second half of last season. He made quite a few starting appearances as well as some substitute ones in a Cardiff team that was having a lot of success at that time. Obviously, it gives some indication of his talent and it is of little surprise that he is an ever present for the U-18 team this season.
Dan Malone (Stoke City)
As is Chem Campbell, Dan is part of the group of 2002 birth year players who played for Wales in last seasonís U-17 international games. Being a few months older than Chem allowed him to start his scholar association with Stoke last season and so this season will be his second and final year in that status. Captain of the Stoke U-18 team this season, Dan will be looking to maintain the excellent progress he has been making at Stoke. He has not only been included in the U-23 squad for some matches but has also participated in some first team training sessions. With a very large and talented group of 2001 birth year players available for selection for this seasonís Wales U-19 squad, Dan has not quite managed to add caps to those gained at U-16 and U-17 level, but having been involved with the training camp for the group when called up as a replacement for an unavailable player in May, he must be one that could be considered if the need arose. He will of course be eligible for the U-19ís next season as well and so there seems little doubt that he will eventually represent the nation at that level.
Tivonge Rushesha (Swansea City)
It seems inevitable that Swansea fans will be cheering Tivonge as a member of the clubís first team and indications suggest that it may be an occurrence that develops sooner rather than later. It does seem that the coaching staff is accelerating his preparation as he has been exclusively used as a member of the U-23 team this season even though as a second year scholar he is also eligible to play U-18 football. He did play in the majority of games played by the U-18 team last season as well as representing Wales as a member of the national U-17 team. With him making such a good impression at club level, it is not surprising that he is now elevated into the national U-19 squad for this season.
