Morgan Boyes (Livingston FC) born 2001, Defender.

With the move to join Livingston in the present transfer window, Morgan concluded his association with Liverpool that had lasted a good number of years. After playing in their academy teams as a schoolboy, he started his fulltime football career as a scholar in the 2017/18 season. Over that season and the next, he played regularly in the U-18 team and made enough of an impression to earn a professional contract in the summer of 2019. The 2019/20 season was certainly an eventful time for Morgan as he played regularly for the U-23 team and then made his first team debut when Liverpool fielded a very young side in the Carabao Cup quarter-final game against Aston Villa. He played the whole of that game and then made another appearance in the final minutes of an FA Cup game a few weeks later. He spent the first half of last season on loan at Fleetwood Town where he played in four first team games before his return to the Liverpool U-23 squad and played regularly for that team. His recent move will now give Morgan the chance to establish himself as a regular first team player at Livingston, the management team at the club expressed their pleasure in having signed him and believed him capable of helping to strengthen their squad. Morgan has collected numerous Wales caps over the years, first doing so as a schoolboy, including being a member of the 2016/17 Victory Shield squad. He continued to represent the nation at U-17 and U-19 levels before becoming a member of the U-21 squad in the last two seasons.

Lewis Collins (Newport County) born 2001, Midfielder.

Now in his third season as a fulltime professional at Newport, Lewis continues to extend his association with the club that began when he played in their academy teams. He then became a scholar at the start of the 2017/18 season and obviously did well enough in those two seasons to persuade the management team to retain his services. He did in fact make his first team debut in his first season as a scholar when given a starting assignment in an EFL Trophy match. Able to operate as a midfielder or in a more attacking role, Lewis has amassed just over fifty first team appearances as he has become a valuable member of the squad. He will want to get to his next target of a century of times representing the club as quickly as possible and will aim to get a regular starting role in the team in order to do so. Lewis first played for a Wales team at U-17 level and then collected quite a few more caps with the U-19 team. He has also added a couple at U-21 level as well.

Keenan Patten (Cardiff City) born 2001, Midfielder.
It is over ten years since Keenan first started playing for Cardiff teams in their academy system. He made good progress as a schoolboy associate and signed on with the club as a scholar for the 2017/18 season. Playing regularly for the U-18 team over the next two seasons, he had again done well enough to persuade the management team to sign him to a professional contract in the summer of 2019. In order to get some first team experience, he was loaned out to Welsh Premier League side Penybont for the first half of the 2019/20 season and played a dozen times for them as he displayed good performances at that level. He has been playing for the Cardiff U-23 team since that time but has also had some first team involvement. He has in fact had nine occasions on the bench over the last twelve months or so, as he still awaits that special moment of making his debut. As has happened for quite a few promising youngsters at Cardiff in recent times, he will hopefully also get an opportunity eventually. Keenan’s international representation career started in his time as a schoolboy and included being a member of the 2016/17 Victory Shield squad. He was a member of the 2017/18 U-17 squad that competed in the European qualification games and then in the 2019/20 season gained praise as he helped the U-19 team qualify for the elite stage of those championships. Earlier this season, he was on the bench for the U-21 team.

Barney Soady (Bristol City) born 2001, Defender.

Initially playing a couple of times for the Robins U-18 in his last year as a schoolboy, Barney signed on as a scholar with the club prior to the 2018/19 season and then played regularly in the side. He did miss some time with injury in his second season but had done well enough with quite a few games for the U-23 team to be signed to a professional contract in the summer of 2020. He began last season playing regularly for the U-23 team but then sustained an injury in November that sidelined him for three months only returning to play for the team in late season matches. This season, he has played in all but one of the U-23 games and there may some consideration by the coaching staff for him to be loaned out to get some first team experience and take that next step in his progression. The first time I became aware of Barney’s Wales eligibility was seeing his name amongst a list of players on standby for the U-17’s. In the 2019/20 season he was selected in the U-19 squad that competed in a friendly tournament.

Lewis Webb (Swansea City - on loan at Shelbourne) born 2001, Goalkeeper.

Swansea signed Lewis in the summer of 2019 after he had impressed the management team with some impressive performances at Merthyr Town. He was still eligible to play for the U-18 team that following season and did so along with also getting some assignments with the U-23’s. He played in some games for the U-23 team last season and has done so again this season. He has not made his first team debut but made his first appearance in the squad when on the bench for an early 2020/21 season league game. He then had three similar occasions for FA Cup games later in the season. This season, he was on the bench for four league games and in the Carabao Cup. He now has a new challenge as he begins a loan arrangement at Shelbourne and will hopefully gain some experience at a good level of first team football as their new season begins next month. Lewis caught the notice of the Wales coaching staff whilst at Merthyr and was selected for an U-19 training camp squad. He then played for the U-19’s after joining Swansea. Last season he played for the U-21’s and this season has been a regular in the squad but has remained on the bench for the games.
