George Cowmeadow and Harrison Minturn (Swindon Town) born 2003, Forward, Midfielder.
Both of these young men are second year scholars at Swindon and have shown enough quality to have been given their first team debuts during the season. George was on the bench for the first league match of the season and then in the Carabao Cup game a few days later, making his debut in October when coming off the bench for the last quarter of a Papa John’s Trophy game. His next occasion with the first team was to be on the bench for a third round FA Cup match and repeated that scenario for a league game a couple of weeks ago. Harrison’s first instance with the first team was to be on the bench in the game George made his debut and then he started the next two games the club played in the competition. He has been on the bench five times in league matches, three of them in their most recent games after returning to the club following a very successful two month loan spell at Chippenham. The chances do seem favourable that they will both be retained by the club beyond the time their scholar status comes to an end this season. George is confirmed as eligible for Wales, I’m not sure whether that is the case for Harrison.

Liam Higgins (Everton) born 2003, Midfielder.
tarting his time as a scholar with the Toffees in the 2019/20 season, Liam made appearances in most of the U-18 team’s games and continued doing so last season until it was significantly shortened when he sustained an injury. As a result, Everton extended his scholar contract into this season. He has only managed three substitute appearances for the U-23 team and though I cannot confirm it, I suspect he has still had injury issues. Liam played for Wales teams throughout his time as a schoolboy, although he missed being a member of the 2018/19 Victory Shield squad, having to withdraw because of an injury. He then represented the nation as an U-17 international the following season, including playing in the European Championship qualification games and helping the team progress through to the elite round. Liam was selected to play in those games until cancellation of the competition due to the pandemic occurred.

Aaron Hillier (Swansea City) born 2003, Forward.
Progressing through the Swans academy teams, Aaron played in a couple of games for the U-18 team prior to the start of his time as a scholar at the club at the beginning of last season. He has been playing on a fairly regular basis for the U-18 team and last season played a couple of times for the U-23 team. As he comes to the end of his time in youth football, his hope will be to be retained by the club and move on to the U-23 development team. From the time he participated in the 2017 Cymru Cup games, Aaron was involved with Wales teams as a schoolboy and was selected for the 2018/19 Victory Shield squad. Later that season he played for the Wales U-16 team that played in friendly matches as preparation for the following season U-17 games.

Dylan Lewis (Bristol City) born 2003, Midfielder.
Unfortunately, I am not able to provide much detail about Dylan, primarily because I have only been able to access very sparse information about Bristol City U-18 team line-ups for recent seasons. A second year scholar at the club this season he has possibly been playing regularly for the team in his time with them. Neil has added him to the comprehensive and very useful list he provides, but Dylan has not played for any Wales teams. I did see a suggestion on another site that he may have eligibility for the USA as well as England.

Aidan Macnamara (Cardiff City) born 2003, Defender.

A long association with Cardiff teams began for Aidan when he joined the academy a decade ago and he has progressed through the various teams until moving into a scholar status at the club at the start of last season. He began playing for the U-18 team whilst still an academy member and made more than half a dozen appearances in the 2019/20 season. He played in about half of the U-18 team games last season and has replicated that statistic so far this season. Aidan played in the 2017 Cymru Cup games and was then called up to be a member of the Wales U-17 squad that successfully negotiated the 2019/20 European qualification games.

Oscar Rutherford (Plymouth Argyle) born 2003, Midfielder.
A second year scholar with the Pilgrims, Oscar impressed the coaching staff last season and was included in early pre-season first team preparations for the present one. He played and scored in their traditional pre-season opening game against their local non-league neighbours. A couple of months later he was again involved with the first team when selected on the bench for a Papa John’s Trophy match but was not used as a substitute in the game. Considered to be a midfield player by the coaches, Oscar usually plays in a wing-back role in games. He will now be hoping that he has done well enough to remain at the club and move into the next stage of development football.

James Sweet-Lannin (Arsenal) born 2003, Midfielder.
James progressed from the academy teams to become a scholar at the Gunners at the start of last season and played in about half of the U-18 team’s games. This season, he has been more of a regular feature in the team and has only missed five games out of the twenty five played so far. He will be hoping for an opportunity to join the U-23 squad next season pending on management at the club deciding to offer him a professional contract. James played for the Wales schoolboy teams at both U-15 and U-16 levels but was then recruited by England and played for their U-17 team. He returned to play for Wales and was a member of this season’s U-19 squad.

Ryan Viggars (Charlton Athletic) born 2003, Forward.
An academy member and then a scholar with Sheffield United, his association with the club terminated at the end of last season as the decision was made not to retain him beyond his time as a youth player. As a result, he joined Charlton who signed him up as a member of their U-23 squad and he has played in about half of their games. He has also made his first team debut for the club when substituted in for the last quarter of an hour of a Papa John’s Trophy match. Ryan has amassed a good collection of Wales caps over the last few years playing for the U-15’s and U-16’s as a schoolboy and then continued being a regular selection when U-17, U-18 and U-19 teams played in the subsequent seasons.
