Young guns news - Sunday 29 Nov 09

Grant Basey (Charlton - defender) Started his second consecutive game fro Charlton at the start of the week as they beat Bristol Rovers 4-2.  His dead ball skills created mayhem as the Addicks scored two goals in the second half to claim all three points.

Kayleden Brown (WBA - striker) Picked up an assist as the Baggies drew 3-3 with Walsall in midweek.  Brown played just over an hour and was up against Wales U19 international Sean Geddes (Walsall - midfielder).

Nathan Craig (Everton - midfielder)
Played 90 minutes for the reserves on Monday night as they drew 1-1 with Sunderland. 

Josh Dawkin (Norwich - midfielder) Made the bench for the seniors on Saturday as they drew 2-2 with Southampton in League One.  Dawkin was an unused sub and will now look to cement his place in the match day squad.

Keiron Freeman (Nottingham Forest - defender) And his fellow defenders kept a clean sheet as they brushed past Sheffied United U18's 3-0 last weekend.  Freeman also capped off a fine display with his sides third goal. 

Sam Jones (Leeds - midfielder) Opened the scoring at Thorpe Arch last Saturday but his team had to settle for a draw as the Lillywhites drew 2-2 with Newcastle U18's.  The game also saw the return from injury of Paul Dummett (Newcastle - defender).

Jack Mackreth (Tranmere - midfielder) + Connor Roberts (Tranmere - midfielder)
Both started as the Tranmere reserves lost 2-1 to Southend on Wednesday night.

Joe Perry (Cheltenham - goalkeeper) Was on the bench for the first team as they thrashed Barnet 5-1 this week.  Perry the son of Cardiff City defender, Jason, was an unused sub.

Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City/Stockport - defender) Played 90 minutes on Saturday for his loan club but it wasn't the best of starts as County lost 3-1 to Colchester.  The Wales U21 international will now hope to get a regular run of games under his belt.

Connor Roberts (Everton - goalkeeper) + Aristote Nsiala (Everton - defender) Were a part of the back four that kept a clean sheet in atrocious conditions against Stoke U18's last Saturday morning.  The Toffeemen ran out 1-0 winners.

Young guns news - Sunday 22 Nov 09

Leon Clowes (Wrexham - defender) Scored the youth sides first as they beat Wigan 3-1 in the Youth Alliance league this week. The young Dragons won 3-1.

Ryan Doble (Southampton - midfielder) Is steadily improving and could well be back in training within a fortnight after being struck with shint splints and unable to train over the past few months. 

Jack Mackreth (Tranmere - midfielder)  Picked up an assist as the youth team advanced to the next round of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-1 win against Cambridge United on Wednesday night.  He was joined in the starting XI by Connor Roberts (Tranmere - midfielder).

Gareth Partridge (Shrewsbury - striker)
Kept up his fine form with another goal as the youth team beat Morecambe 5-2 in the FA Youth Cup this week. Partridge fired in from 12 yards to notch his sides fifth. He was joined in the starting XI by Iain Edmunds (Shrewsbury - defender).

Gary Preen (Southampton - midfielder) Was focal to the attack as the U18's beat Hereford 6-0 on Wednesday night and advanced to the next round of the FA Youth Cup. 

Ashton Taylor (Tranmere - defender)  Is back in the starting line up under new manager  Les Parry.  And it was Taylor's first goal for the club against Leyton Orient that earned Rovers a place in the second round of the FA Youth Cup.


Young guns news - Saturday 14 Nov 09

Simon Church (Reading - striker) Got on the score sheet last weekend but it was another stuttering performance by the Royals as they drew 1-1 with Ipswich.  After a barren run the striker was glad to finally get a goal. "They are the goals you love, the spell I've been on I needed a goal and I didn't care how it came." Simon Chruch, Reading

Josh Dawkin (Norwich - midfielder) Like many fringe players benefitted from the Johnstone's Paint Trophy fixtures this week to start against Swindon.  Dawkin played the whole game as Norwich won after a penalty shoot out.  He was joined in the squad by David Stephens (Norwich - defender) who was an unused sub.

Ryan Doble: photo linked from www.saintsfc.co.ukRyan Doble (Southampton - midfielder)   Is struggling with a bad case of shin splints and is at present unable to train. He is struggling to shake it off after being involved with the first team at the start of the season.






Keiron Freeman (Nottingham Forest - defender) Made an appearance for the reserves this week as a second half sub in a 2-1 win against Barnsley.  Freeman came off the bench after 55 minutes. 

Aaron Holloway (Bristol City - defender/midfieder) Was described as outstanding by youth team coach John Clayton after the 2-1 win against Birmingham U18's last Saturday.  Holloway played 90 minutes in defence.   

Sam Jones (Leeds - midfielder) Pulled one back as he continues to build back his fitness after an early season injury.  Jones scored in the second half but it wasn't enough as they lost 3-2 to a Boro U18 team with Patrick Otte (Middlesbrough - defender) in the starting XI. 

Kayne McLaggon (Southampton - striker) Headed East to join Eastbourne Borough this week on a month's loan as he looks to step up his fitness after an achilles injury.  His first appearance will be against Salisbury Town. 

Gareth Partridge (Shrewsbury - striker) Scored his sides second as the youth team beat Burton 4-1 in the Alliance Youth Cup this week as former Wales B international Dave Hughes' charges continued a fine run of form. 

Christian Ribeiro: photo linked from yimg.com/empicsChristian Ribeiro (Bristol City - defender) + Jake Taylor (Reading - striker) Came head to head on Wednesday evening as the reserves battled it out at Farnborough FC. And it was U21 international Taylor who got off to a flyer with a brace in two minutes during the first half. Although even a two goal advantage wasn't enough as City came back to draw 2-2.

Vinny Mukendi (Macclesfield - striker) Scored in normal time with a calmly slotted finish past the Hartlepool keeper as the Macc youth team advanced to the 3rd Round of the Youth Alliance Cup last weekend.  He then scored from the spot during the penalty shoot as they won after extra time.

Jonathan Bond: photo linked from wrexhamafc.co.ukJonathan Bond (Watford - goalkeeper) Was between the sticks as the reserves beat Ipswich 1-0 this week.  Bond has been covering for first team stopper Scott Loach as the club deal with a keeping injury crisis and was on the bench for the seniors last weekend as they slumped 5-0 to WBA.






Keiron Freeman (Nottingham Forest - defender) And the U18 team enjoyed a win against local rivals Derby last weekend.  Freeman played 85 minutes in a 6-3 win. 

Sam Hart (Preston - defender) Played 90 minutes as the U18 team thrashed Morecambe 6-0 last Saturday morning. 

Aaron Holloway (Bristol City - defender/midfielder) Was described as being outstanding by manager John Clayton as the U18's lost 1-0 to Leicester last weekend.

Josh Knight (WBA - midfielder) Started as the Baggies reserves stuck 10 past Burton Albion this week.  Knight played 75 minutes in a very comfortable win.

Jack Mackreth (Tranmere - midfielder) + Connor Roberts (Tranmere - midfielder) Both started as the Tranmere youth team advanced to the next stage of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-0 win over Farsley Celtic on Tuesday night.  

Aynsley McDonald: photo linked from faw.org.ukAynsley McDonald (Rushden and Diamonds - defender) Captained the youth team side as they were dumped out of the FA Youth Cup against Northampton on Monday night.  The Diamonds took the lead but went on to lose 2-1 afetr extra time.

Vinny Mukendi (Macclesfield - striker) Put in an impressive shift as the Macc Youth beat Bury in the FA Youth Cup First Round Proper this week.  Mukendi went on some mazy runs and was a constant menace in the 2-0 win.

Gary Preen (Southampton - midfielder) Scored as he cut in from the left and drilling a shot past the keeper. Unfortunately it was not enough as the U18 team lost 4-1 to Crystal Palace.  Although Preen did taste success three days later as the U18 team beat Aldershot 4-0 to advance to the next round of the FA Youth Cup.
